Shortly after completing “Frankenweenie,” Burton collaborated with a former classmate on “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” the following year. With a budget of $7 million, this film earned $40 million at the box office, establishing Burton’s reputation for creating highly profitable films on modest budgets. He went on to direct iconic films such as “Batman” (1989), “Batman Returns” (1992), and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993). Additionally, he was involved in other projects as a creator but did not direct them, which include “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” (2007) and “Alice in Wonderland” (2010).

Burton shares parenthood of two children with his ex-wife Lena Gieseke, stemming from their four-year marriage.
