Background
Known as ‘J.C.’ Chasez, Joshua Scott Chasez shines as a multifaceted talent. He’s recognized as a singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, and sometimes actor. His journey began in “The Mickey Mouse Club” during his childhood, later transitioning into fame with the boy band NSYNC.
Born on August 8, 1976, in Bowie, Maryland, he was raised by Roy and Karen Chasez, who were his mother’s former foster parents. Ron worked in a tech consulting role, while Karen served as an editor. They took care of JC’s biological mother and adopted him when he was five.
In his youth, Chasez was quite shy and would only showcase his dancing at home for his parents. To build his confidence, he also started singing. His life took a dramatic turn in his teenage years. At thirteen, he entered a national talent competition as a dancer and emerged victorious! This success ignited his passion for performing and singing.
Two years later, a casting call in the “Washington Post” for Disney’s “The Mickey Mouse Club” caught his mother’s eye. She believed JC was perfect for the role. Auditioning with Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting,” he secured a spot as a performer in the show’s fourth season. After concluding in 1994, his tenure as a Mouseketeer led him to form a friendship with Justin Timberlake, who would later become his bandmate.
The subsequent year, Chris
Kirkpatrick established the boy band NSYNC, designating JC and Justin as the lead singers. Their debut album, “NSYNC,” was launched in 1998, achieving sales of over 11 million copies globally and earning immense fame in the US. Their follow-up album, “No Strings Attached,” was released two years later and maintained the record for the fastest-selling album in history until 2015, with 2.4 million copies sold within the first week. Following their third studio album in 2001 and the “Celebrity Tour” in 2002, the band opted for a hiatus.
During his time with the band, JC penned and produced tracks for both the group and other musicians like Wild Orchid, a practice he maintained throughout their hiatus. He debuted his first solo single, “Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love),” in 2002, followed by the release of his first solo album, “Schizophrenic,” two years later. That same year, he began crafting his second album with Jive Records, titled “The Story of Kate,” which was expected to feature collaborations with Timberlake, Timbaland, Dallas Austin, and Jimmy Harry. However, due to complications with the label, the album was never released, leading to JC parting ways with Jive Records in 2007.
Following this, Chasez continued his career as a songwriter, contributing to projects by artists such as David Archuleta, Matthew Morrison, and the Backstreet Boys. In 2008, he joined MTV as a judge for “America’s Best Dance Crew,” remaining on the panel until the show concluded in 2012. That same year, he collaborated with Jimmy Harry to form an all-girl group known as ‘Girl Radical,’ and in 2016, he made his significant film debut in “Opening Night,” portraying a dramatized version of himself.
