Background

In Brixton, London, David Bowie, originally named David Robert Jones, was born. His parents were Margaret Mary and Haywood Stenton Jones. During his childhood, he was recognized for his talents and focus, leading teachers to perceive him as very artistic, although he also displayed a combative side. Bowie participated in the school choir and played the recorder. At 15, in 1962, he founded his first band known as the Konrads. Shortly after, he departed from the Konrads to join the King Bees, feeling that the other members lacked ambition.

A month after beginning with the King Bees, Bowie departed once more, this time to become part of the Manish Boys, but dissatisfaction soon led him to seek another band. Subsequently, he joined a fourth band called the Lower Third. However, due to his challenging nature, Bowie left the Lower Third after a brief period. By this time, he was starting his journey as a solo artist and was delving into avant-garde theater and mime under the guidance of Lindsay Kemp. Despite his aspirations, Bowie struggled to find large-scale commercial success.until “Space Oddity” was released by him in July 1969. This release paralleled the launch of the Apollo 11 spacecraft, leading to significant success.

His second album, “Bowie,” came out in November 1969. Also during this year, Bowie entered into marriage with Angela Barnett. In 1972, he introduced his iconic Ziggy persona for the “Ziggy Stardust” stage show. The show received widespread acclaim, propelling him to the forefront of the U.K. entertainment scene. In 1976, he would go on to develop another persona, ‘The Thin White Duke.’ Besides music, he also succeeded as an actor and painter. After a decade post-divorce, he met supermodel Iman, and they married in 1992, staying together until his passing in 2016.
